Juneteenth, a day of immense historical significance and joyous celebration, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, news of freedom took time to reach enslaved people across the country. It wasn't until June 19, 1865, that Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of slavery. This day became a turning point in Texas, and Juneteenth celebrations have been held ever since.

This year, the City of Beaumont invites you to join their annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Downtown Beaumont at the Main Library Outdoor Plaza 784 Main Street.

The event promises a vibrant atmosphere filled with:

  • Live Entertainment: Get ready to groove to the iconic R&B funk group Con Funk Shun, known for hits like "Shake and Dance with Me" and "Love's Train." DJ Erik Tee will be the MC for the event.
  • Food Trucks: A variety of food trucks will tantalize your taste buds with delicious offerings, catering to diverse culinary preferences.
  • Children's Activities: The City of Beaumont Recreation Department brings back the exciting Free Throw Competition for kids under 12, offering a chance to showcase their skills and win fantastic prizes. There will also be booths providing free kid's activities and crafts.
