SETX Summer Boredom Busters

Every grown-up charged with the care of a child cringes at the phrase, “I’m bOrEd!” Summer has just begun. How can these words possibly already be uttered? Somehow it doesn’t take much for “kids these days” (and sometimes even ourselves), but never fear!

While kids definitely need the opportunity to be bored and build their creativity and imaginations, we also have a few ideas to tuck away in your back pocket for when everyone needs a little something new, fresh, and fun to get out and enjoy summertime in Southeast Texas. Bonus…most of these suggestions are FREE or fairly inexpensive too!

Splash Pads & Pools

Did you know there’s a map of all the city splash pads and pools to keep cool in throughout the summer? The City of Beaumont splash pads and pools are absolutely free to all residents and non-residents, so throw on that swimsuit, rub in the sunscreen, and grab a towel on your way to a nearby cooldown spot. 409 Family also has a map of all the 409 area code splash pads and pools to help beat the infamous Southeast Texas heat. With so many options, this is an excellent way to get active and cure the boredom blues.

Museums

Who would have guessed that Beaumont has more museums per capita than any other city of its size in Texas? Great news for those looking for something inquisitive and engaging while (mostly) indoors during the hot summer season. Check out the graphic for a list of museums in Beaumont and beyond.

Indoor Play

Ideal places to beat the heat in Southeast Texas! An excellent range of interests for any and all ages, this list is perfect to show there is so much to do and fun to be had in Southeast Texas. Plus, don’t forget each city’s local libraries, movie theaters, and recreation centers. Summer is the best time to take part in the many wonderful free programs like summer reading, camps, daily activities, and more! See 409 Family’s Summer Directory for specifics.

Outdoor Exploration & More

For sun-kissed moments in Southeast Texas, this list comes highly recommended. There’s no shortage of scenic state parks, boating, kayaking/canoeing, fishing, beaches, city parks + skate parks, hiking, biking, and even u-pick farms awaiting on the Gulf Coast.

Make the most of a SETX Summer and lose phrases like, “There’s nothing to do here. I’m bored.” Instead, discover something new, go exploring, and love where you live!
