71 colorful murals bring life to traffic boxes all over the City of Beaumont. What began as a small project to bring public art to traffic boxes in downtown and along Calder Avenue has grown to bring colorful boxes around Beaumont. Artist and Beaumont resident, Darrell Troppy pitched the idea to Councilwoman Virginia Jordan after seeing similar murals in other cities, and they created a plan to do fewer than 20. Now artists have signed up to paint over 70 of the city's 160 boxes, which house the electronics that control the traffic lights, according to the city's chief technology officer Bart Bartkowiak.
