Summer has come to an end and school is in full swing. By now, the kids are already looking for a break from their homework, despite the fact that they "couldn't wait to go back to school to see their friends!" a mere three weeks ago. The good news is that with the passing of summer means the worst of the Texas heat is behind us and we're well on our way to cooler temperatures and fall breezes.
Personally, this is my favorite time of year. While admittedly, the fall foliage I so desperately love doesn't last as long here in southeast Texas as it does in the northern states, it's still a beautiful sight and paves the way for mild winters us southerners have grown accustomed to. More importantly, it's one of the busiest times of year for local events, which means plenty of activities to give the kiddos - and you parents - a break from homework.
Below, are three upcoming fall family events at Gladys City. These are the ones I'll be bringing my boys to. And, having attended many events at the replica boomtown, I have complete faith that Mark and his staff at Gladys City, will once again outdo themselves. Mark your calendars y'all & I'll see you there!

Yount-Lee Equestrian Day
Saturday, November 16, 2013
10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Free admission
On November 13, 1925, Spindletop produced its second oil boom when the Yount-Lee Oil Company used new technology to drill on the flanks of Spindletop Hill. As a result of this discovery - and the wealth that followed, Miles Yount and his wife, Pansy, soon became known as some of the best breeders of horses in the United States. Gladys City will celebrate the second Spindletop boom by welcoming some four-legged friends. From therapy horses to award-winning saddle-bred horses, families will delight at being able to ride, groom and learn all about the care and breeding of horses.
