Juneteenth, a day of immense historical significance and joyous celebration, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, news of freedom took time to reach enslaved people across the country. It wasn't until June 19, 1865, that Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of slavery. This day became a turning point in Texas, and Juneteenth celebrations have been held ever since.
This year, the City of Beaumont invites you to join their annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Downtown Beaumont at the Main Library Outdoor Plaza 784 Main Street.
