It's fall y'all and that means weekend after weekend of festivals, outdoor events and fun activities throughout the season! On Saturday, October 10th (11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) the Big Thicket Association will host Big Thicket Day to celebrate the establishment of the Big Thicket National Preserve, 51 years ago. This free event will be held at Collier’s Ferry Park on the Neches River. The Old Time String Shoppe will provide entertainment in the form of bluegrass music throughout the day.
You'll want to bring the kids because booths will offer hands-on activities for children of all ages and the Ivory Bill will be providing short eco-tours on the Neches River. Big Thicket Outfitters will also have canoes and kayaks available for rent and free demonstrations. Other participating organizations include Shangri La Botanical Gardens, Native Plant Society, Golden Triangle Sierra Club, Texas Master Naturalist, Clean Air & Water, Spirit Stables and more. As an added bonus, the Big Thicket Outlaws will join the celebration! And come hungry because lunch will be available from noon to 1:00 p.m.
The Big Thicket National Preserve will have a special both and Rangers on hand to promote their planned public activities for the National Park Service’s Centennial Celebration, including their Share Your Thicket Centennial Photo Contest. Stay tuned for more details on how the Big Thicket Association and Beaumont are celebrating 100 years of the National Park Service!
