Texas Crime Stoppers Conference to Be Held in Beaumont October 8-10, 2014
The Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to welcome the 26th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers Conference to Beaumont October 8-10, 2014.
"Since the inception of Beaumont Crime Stoppers in 1981, we have received over 14,000 tips resulting in over 3,000 arrests, over 6,000 cases cleared and over 7 million dollars in property recoveries and drug seizures," says Carol Riley, Public Information Office for the Beaumont Police Department and Crime Stoppers. "We're happy to be able to host the Texas Crime Stoppers here in Beaumont. We're Texans Fighting Crime One Tip at a Time!" she continues.
Nearly 300 attendees will come together for the Texas Crime Stoppers Council's 26th Annual Conference, hosted by Crime Stoppers of Jefferson and Hardin Counties. The conference offers Texas Commission On Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours and fulfills the training requirement for certification and continued certification.
Training topics include: Internet crimes that exploit children, other types of cyber-crimes, metal theft, terrorism, leadership development and other interesting topics concerning the Crime Stoppers initiative. Training also includes a Crime Stoppers Basic Course with the following topics: Texas Crime Stoppers overview, board responsibilities, program operations, record keeping and requirements of the governor's office for program certification, campus Crime Stoppers, marketing, and legal items & governance.
The conference begins at noon on Wednesday, October 8, and ends at noon on Friday, October 10, 2014. The conference is located at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites - Beaumont Plaza and is not open to the public. Attendees who arrive on Tuesday evening, October 7, will have the opportunity for a pre-conference excursion to the L'Auberge Casino & Resort in Lakes Charles, Louisiana. Free bus transportation to and from the Casino will be provided.

Texas Crime Stoppers is a program within the Office of the Governor under the Criminal Justice Division that encourages, supports and fosters the development of local crime stoppers organizations as a way to prevent crime. In response to the state's soaring crime rate, the Texas Crime Stoppers Council was created in 1981 to advise the Governor on Crime Stoppers operations in Texas. Texas Crime Stoppers is charged with providing resources to local crime stopper organizations through training and certification, administering grants to local programs from the state appropriated Crime Stoppers Assistance Fund, and engaging citizens to increase awareness and protect communities from crime. Its mission is to assist law enforcement with crime detection by encouraging persons to report information about crimes in their communities while remaining anonymous.
