Heritage Happy Hour @ First Security National Bank

Join us July 18th, 2024 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. for a special Heritage Happy Hour to celebrate where Beaumont Heritage Society began - the First Security National Bank! The first organizational meeting for Beaumont Heritage Society was held in the building in April 12, 1967. Guests will see where Beaumont Heritage Society started and learn more about our co-host, Beaumont Main Street! About First Security National Bank: "The First Security National Bank was designed in 1961 by the Beaumont firm of Pitts, Mebane & Phelps in association with D.E. Steinman. This radically contemporary structure uses an exterior concrete sunscreen made by local sculptor, Matchett Herring Coe. There are 361 individual panels on the facade, each weighing one ton. A Texas Historical Commission subject marker was placed in the ground floor entry lobby on November 7, 1966, noting its importance as the oldest bank between Houston and the Louisiana border." About Beaumont Main Street: Beaumont Main Street started in the early 1970s when city leaders organized Central City Development Corporation. In 1985, CCDC became BUILD, Inc. (Beaumont Urban Improvement Leadership for Downtown, Inc) and a 501(c)(3) status was obtained. In 1991, BUILD, Inc. and the City of Beaumont applied for Main Street designation from the Texas Historical Commission and the National Trust. The designation was approved and in 1992 Beaumont Main Street began the work of revitalizing the Beaumont Commercial District, a National Register District. Heritage Happy Hour is an ongoing outreach program typically held every other month, with each event highlighting a historical landmark, time, exhibit, or organization, featuring complimentary craft beer provided by Giglio Distributing Co. (wine and non-alcoholic beverages also available). We believe that by promoting and sharing our local history and its historical significance in a fun and social way, we can also share and promote the efforts to preserve Beaumont’s historical landscape. Join the Beaumont Heritage Society today at beaumontheritage.org/membership and be a part of making a difference!
