Beaumont Welcomes East Texas Historical Association February 18-20, 2016

The Beaumont Convention & Visitors Bureau welcomes the East Texas Historical Association to the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Beaumont Plaza February 18-20, 2016 for its annual Spring Meeting and invites the public to attend.

“We are an invaluable asset to southeast Texas history & culture,” says Dr. Scott Sosebee of East Texas Historical Association. “Not only do we work to preserve the rich history with which this part of Texas is endowed, we strive to make it known so others can appreciate it as well.”

Founded in 1962, the East Texas Historical Association (ETTA) is committed to the preservation and enhancement of East Texas' great historical heritage. This involves the discovery, collection, and preservation of historical records, manuscripts, letters, journals, maps, pictures, and other materials related to East Texas history. The Association also encourages the preservation of buildings of historical interest and architectural worth. The public is invited to attend the Association’s Spring Meeting, which features fifteen sessions of interest to a diverse audience. A schedule can be found online.

  • Art Museums of Southeast Texas: Past, Present & Future
  • Making History & Producing Historians: Honoring the Work of Professor Joseph Pratt
  • Cross-Generational Conversations on Activism, Scholarship & Legacy: Honoring Leading Tejano Historian Guadalupe San Miguel
  • Black Women Historians in Texas & Their Cross-Generational Memories: 1980s-Present
  • Toil & Turmoil: Development & Decline of Immigrant Communities
  • Formidable Texas Women
  • Physical Aspects of the New Deal in Texas
  • Building & Planning in Southeast Texas, a joint session with Texas Gulf Historical Society

Pre-registration is available online or by calling the Association office at (936) 468-2407. Onsite registration is available Friday, February 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Registration for the general public is $40 (entire meeting) or $25 (one day). Residents of Jefferson, Hardin, Chambers, Orange, and Liberty Counties who are first-time visitors to an East Texas Historical Association meeting will pay only $15 (entire meeting) or $10 (one day). Anyone who joins the Association will receive a complimentary registration for the meeting. One-year Association membership is $35 (individual) and $45 (family).
