Beaumont is home to one of the finest universities in Texas, Lamar University. Founded in 1923, Lamar has a rich history. The University's namesake, Mirabeau B. Lamar, was the second president of the Republic of Texas and a pioneer and supporter of higher education.
Lamar University is a member of the Texas State University System and has more then 13,000 enrolled students. The University offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Lamar offers several NCAA Division I sports that students can participate in, including golf, cross country, tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer and football.
