Lamar University

Beaumont is home to one of the finest universities in Texas, Lamar University.  Founded in 1923, Lamar has a rich history.  The University's namesake, Mirabeau B. Lamar, was the second president of the Republic of Texas and a pioneer and supporter of higher education. 

Lamar University is a member of the Texas State University System and has more then 13,000 enrolled students.  The University offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Lamar offers several NCAA Division I sports that students can participate in, including golf, cross country, tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer and football.  Cardinal Football returns to Lamar University for the 2010 season in the newly renovated Provost Umphrey Stadium and athletic complex.
