Outdoors in Beaumont

With dense forests, sandy beaches and shallow wetlands, Southeast Texas is overflowing with outdoor recreation. Enjoy local botanical gardens and city parks or find adventure in the many hiking & biking locales that abound in Southeast Texas, such as the Big Thicket National Preserve.

Beaumont is also surrounded by the Neches River, Sabine Lake, the Gulf of Mexico and many other bodies of water making the city idea for paddling, boating and fishing. This also makes us a bird watching paradise with hundreds of indigenous species and others migrating in for a season along our two migratory flyways, the Central and the Mississippi. If you're in town for bird watching, be sure to put Cattail Marsh Scenic Wetlands on your list.

With the largest alligator population in Texas, we have swamps & gators covered too. Here in Beaumont, you can hold a live alligator, enjoy swamp tours and see the famous Big Tex, a 14-foot alligator who makes his home at Gator Country.
