The Dishman Art Museum announces two new exhibitions on display now through
November 9.

On the first floor, experience Mum, the work of award-winning fine art photographer Nancy Newberry as she
captures the current teenage cultural traditions and rites of passage attached to the uniquely Texas custom of
the homecoming mum. Newberry, a Texas native, presents a personal and somewhat humorous exploration
of the homecoming mum ritual. Exchanged among friends, the mum is a tradition where size and flashiness
are an important part of a teen’s social standing. Skillfully posing her subjects in unusual settings, her images
create a psychological tension, and as Newberry states, “based on interpretation of my memories.”

On the second floor, Drawing in Japan features a variety of works by the LU Department of Art students from
their recent study abroad trip to Japan. Guest Curator is Christopher Troutman, LU assistant professor of art
and organizer of the study abroad trip to Japan.
