While Beaumont dealt with two weeks of unprecedented flooding, damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey, the City of Beaumont has bounced back and is quickly recovering; particularly as it relates to the meetings and convention business, per the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Convention Sales Team.

Hurricane Harvey did have some immediate impact on conventions in Beaumont, “Most of the late August and September events were either postponed or rescheduled,” stated Freddie Willard, Director of Sales. “We had two softball tournaments cancelled and one tennis tournament relocated to Tyler, Texas, but none of our conferences, meetings, or class reunions booked later this fall have cancelled.”

As of September 6, 2017, 98 percent of Beaumont hotels were open and reporting 100 percent occupancy to the Beaumont CVB with most hotels having an expected date of availability to start mid-to-late October.  “I’ve been in contact with our hotel partners almost daily and everyone has been very understanding and accommodating,” stated Willard.

Most Beaumont hotels remained open during the storm to house displaced residents and first responders. Their warm hospitality and the outpouring of human kindness from the staff at these properties made the Beaumont CVB very proud of our hospitality partners. Everyone pulled together to help after the rain stopped and now, the local attractions, businesses, restaurants, lodging and event spaces are getting back to business.

“Despite the recovery process, everyone is continuing to host meeting business,” adds Rebecca Woodland, Convention Sales Manager. “For example, the MCM Eleganté had some carpet damage but still hosted Spindletop Rotary Club’s meeting this week as well as other organizations. Our convention hotels are functioning normally.”

Beaumont is strong and recovering well. Our roadways, highways and streets are accessible, airports have resumed their schedules and attractions and restaurants are open. What we want meeting planners to know is that we are open for the meeting and convention business.

If you have a meeting, reunion or tournament that would fit Beaumont, please come book it through the Beaumont CVB.
