It's National Travel and Tourism Week May 7-15! Beaumont is using the occasion to highlight local museums, attractions, and events that bring in travelers and tourism dollars to our local economy.
Travel and tourism is one of America's largest industries, employing more workers than both the insurance and auto industries combined. In 2010, it generated $1.8 trillion in economic output, and it delivered $118 billion in tax revenues. In fact, without travel and tourism's contribution to the tax base, each household would be taxed an additional $1,000 per year. Source
Simply put: travel matters. It matters with job creation, productivity and regional economic expansion. Travel matters to our national economy, and it matters right here in Beaumont.
Consider the impact that thousands of leisure and business travelers create on our city's hoteliers, restaurateurs, retailers, museums and countless other businesses.
