This past weekend Beaumont hosted the 2nd Annual Gusher Marathon which brought in more than 1,850 runners to participate in the Half Marathon and 5K. The Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau would like to congratulate all the volunteers, organizers and participants who contributed to such a wonderful and successful event.
"The weather could not have been nicer," said Dean Conwell, CDME Executive Director for the Convention & Visitors Bureau. "76 degrees, 60 percent humidity, clear skies... it was just another perfect day in Beautiful Mountain!"
Conwell and a number of CVB Employees grabbed their pom-poms, noisemakers and set up a CVB Cheering Squad to welcome and cheer on the runners as they made their way into downtown Beaumont.
"It was a blast watching them all run by while we cheered them on" says Susan Luquette, CVB ConventionServicing Manager.
The Beaumont CVB gives a big ol Texas-size pat on the back to Richard and Aimee James,The Gusher Committee and Volunteers for all their efforts in organizing and bringing this sports event to Beaumont.
Not only was this a tremendous event, but having the out of town runners for the weekend, filled up Beaumont hotels and brought tourism dollars into our economy. Sporting events and sports tourism is a win-win.
The feedback from the Gusher participants has been overwhelmingly positive, and the Beaumont CVB is already pumped about working to help make next year's 2012 Gusher Marathon even better.
